Script Supervision Intensive: 2 Days

Every filmed production that has a script -- feature films, short films, TV series, web series, animated series, commercials -- needs a Script Supervisor. Currently, however, Script Supervisors are a rare commodity. The worldwide pool of trained and available Script Supervisors is exceedingly small, and producers are often desperate to find qualified continuity professionals.

Script Supervisors -- also known as Continuity Supervisors – are responsible making sure that all aspects of the filmmaking process are performed flawlessly from script to screen. As a “department of one” the Script Supervisor keeps the production on track and records all the infinitesimal details of the process to create a bible the editor uses to assemble the film. Instructor J. Timothy Hunt will take you through a systematic step-by-step process to help you understand the role, the relationships on the set, and how to generate all the specific reports required at a professional level.

During this weekend intensive, you will acquire all the knowledge and tools to perform the job of Script Supervisor. You will learn how to break down the script in pre-production, how to confidently speak the "grammar of film," how to generate slate numbers (in American, British, and Continental European formats), and how to produce industry-standard lined scripts with facing pages, shot logs, and daily progress reports. Timothy will even take you through live simulations featuring real-world feature film dailies so you can experience what it feels like to be a continuity supervisor as the cameras roll. The weekend finishes with advice on how to find work in the field as well as information about the process of joining unions.

This 14-hour course is not only a perfect introduction to anyone new to the industry, but is ideal for directors who want to get the most out of their shots, for editors who want to know what happens on set, and for anyone who wants to work as a Script Supervisor.

The Introduction to Independent Filmmaking workshop is recommended as a prerequisite. This workshop is recommended as a companion to the Directing Dramatic Film, Visual Metaphor and Expressive Directing Techniques and Introduction to Production Accounting workshops.
