March 22, 2024

THE LIAISON OF INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS OF TORONTO (LIFT)
ANNOUNCES CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:
OPEN SCREENING – SPRING 2024

UPDATE – Submissions are now closed! We have reached our time limit for the event.

The Call for Submissions for the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto’s (LIFT) Spring 2024 edition of the Open Screening is now open! We are accepting films for an upcoming evening of new films, experiments, found footage and works in progress.

For those who don’t know, an open screening is a low stakes opportunity for current LIFT members and other community creatives to showcase and discover some wonderful new pieces.

Have you been working on a project over the winter and want to show it off? Discovered some old films at a flea market you’d like to share with an audience? Have a work In progress or a scene from a larger project you’d like to present for feedback? Whatever you’ve got, send it our way!

We’ll be equipped to project in a variety of formats including Regular 8mm, Super 8mm, 16mm, as well as digital formats.

Eligibility:
– Limit of one (1) submission per filmmaker.
– Single submission must be 10 minutes or less (including credits).
– Content must be in line with LIFT’s Statement of Inclusion and Code of Conduct
– Genre can be either narrative, documentary or experimental.
– Must be living and/or have an art practice in or near the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area areas (GTHA).
– Submissions are on a first-come, first service basis to fit within the time limit of the event.
– We will be closing submissions once we’ve reached our limit so submit early.

Please Note: This screening would not count towards professional screening eligibility that the various Canadian arts councils require to be eligible for their media arts grants.

LIFT welcomes applicants from all creatives, and strongly encourages applications who identify as candidates from equity priority groups; using the current Toronto Arts Council definition as outlined here.

Presentation Details:
– We will be equipped to project Regular 8mm, Super 8mm and 16mm film prints, and digital files with the following codecs: H.264 and Apple ProRes.
