ASSISTANTS FOR FILM LABS GATHERING

December 7, 2022—The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is an artist-run charitable organization dedicated to facilitating excellence in the moving image through media arts education and production resources. LIFT exists to provide support and encouragement for independent filmmakers and artists through affordable access to production, post-production and exhibition equipment; professional and creative development; workshops and courses; commissioning and exhibitions; artist residencies; and a variety of other services. LIFT is looking to fill three internship positions for 2023. Those who join the team will help assist in the preparation of “Analogue Resilience: A Film Labs Gathering” taking place May 25-30 in Toronto, Canada. We are currently looking for two (2) Programming Assistants and one (1) Technical Assistant.

We are looking for current post-secondary students who are seeking co-op hours or work placement positions.

“Analogue Resilience: A Film Labs Gathering” is a precedent-setting event for the international community of independent and artist-run analogue film labs. Running from May 25-30, 2023 the purpose of the event is to bring artist-run labs, collectives, and filmmakers from around the world together to facilitate innovation, skill-sharing and knowledge exchange. Over the course of the 5-day event, participants will engage in a series of discussion sessions and hands-on workshops designed to promote renewal, creative collaboration and the continued vitality of analogue filmmaking globally.

All three positions will receive an honorarium. Final amount to be determined depending on final funding results.

These positions will require a mix of on-site and work from home hours, based on public safety requirements.

PROGRAMMING ASSISTANT: FILM LABS GATHERING

8 hours per week (flexible)
Projected Start Date: Mid-January 2023 (exact date flexible)

The Programming Assistants will work with LIFT’s Special Projects Coordinator Helen Lee in the lead up to the multi-day event. If scheduling allows it would be greatly beneficial for one or both assistants to be on hand to aid in the delivery of the gathering in May. This is a very collaborative support role and best suited for someone who is interested in gaining experience and refining their skills as an arts administrator.

Internship Duration: January 2023 to end of May 2023 (start date is flexible)

Key responsibilities will include:
– Writing copy, sourcing images, and assisting with the design of printed material, including programs, posters, etc
– Developing social media assets in collaboration with the LIFT staff
– Designing and populating the Film Labs page on the LIFT website
– On-site support during the Gathering

The ideal candidate will have a combination of the following skills:
– Strong organizational and communication skills
– Good design sensibilities
– Experience with WordPress, Hootsuite, Canva and Google Workspace
– Experience delivering live events
– Although it is not a requirement, interest in independent and analogue film is considered an asset.

This position will require the Programming Assistants to work on-site at the LIFT facility one day a week.

The Technical Assistant will work with LIFT’s Special Projects Coordinator Helen Lee, as well as LIFT’s Technical Department in the preparation as well as the delivery of the event.

This is a very collaborative support role and best suited for someone who is interested in gaining experience and refining their skills and knowledge of analogue filmmaking and processes.

Key responsibilities will include:
– Working with the Technical Department and Special Projects Coordinator to test and take inventory of requested and required equipment for the events
– Onsite support during the Gathering
– Support tech department with gear rental during film labs meeting

The ideal candidate will have experience with the following:
– Strong organizational and communication skills
– Experience delivering live events
– Working knowledge of analogue filmmaking workflow

This position will require the Technical Assistant to work on-site at the LIFT facilities one day a week.
