Grip and Electric Fundamentals

This full day, intensive hands-on workshop is designed for those aiming to gain a working knowledge of the roles of grip and electric departments and crew members (Gaffer, Key Grip…) on a professional film production. Gain an introduction to the different roles, set etiquette and work environment in Toronto, with an emphasis on set safety. Then, through hands-on practice, participants will learn the tools of the trade and put their creative problem-solving skills to work. Learn how to tackle some of the most common lighting and rigging tasks and complete entire setups including setting up frames and flags, adding or cutting light, cable management, knots, tenting out, booming, laying dolly track and more. The day closes with breakdowns of complex rigs, and a Q&A for those who may be interested in pursuing a career in these disciplines.

Note: Participants are required to wear appropriate attire for manual work. Open-toed shoes are not permitted.

Camera Theory, Cinematography Fundamentals, Lighting Fundamentals and Creative Lighting are recommended as prerequisite workshops.
