Experimenting with Super 8

NOTE: It is recommended that participants wear a mask for all in-person workshops.

In this workshop participants will be introduced to a variety of techniques through which a favoured medium of experimental filmmaking, Super 8, can be expanded upon to new creative ends. The workshop will begin with a demonstration of Super 8 camera basics and special features. Participants will then practice shooting on Super 8. After the film has been shot we will be collectively exploring a range of experimental processing techniques such as tinting, toning, finishing the workshop with on-film editing.

This workshop includes all film, darkroom chemistry, and supplies for use during the workshop. LIFT’s Camera Theory workshop is a prerequisite for Experimenting with Super 8. This workshop is recommended as a companion to the Animating Analogue, Bolex, Arri SRII 16mm and Aaton XTR Prod Super 16mm Cameras, Darkroom Play with 16mm Colour Film, Hand Processing Black and White Film and Hand Processing Colour Film workshops.
