Digital Colour Grading with DaVinci Resolve

Color theory has evolved far beyond the color grading suite. In an era of rapidly advancing digital cameras and diverse image formats, a profound understanding of digital color theory has become essential for all key creative roles in filmmaking and digital photography, including directors, producers, editors, camera crews and art directors.

From pre-production to post-production, and from digital photography to digital cinema, this workshop explores the core principles required for any artistic production using digital cameras. You will learn how to architect an effective production pipeline, what technical and aesthetic factors to consider within your workflow, how to handle color to serve your visual direction, and how to set and push digital camera performance to its absolute limit, building the overarching knowledge applicable to all modern workflows.

By the end of this course, you will have mastered the fundamental digital color theory essential for high-quality independent filmmaking and comprehensive digital image pipelines, spanning both photo and video. From here, depending on your creative needs, you have the option to continue into our follow-up Color Grading class for advanced techniques and hands-on application.

This Colour Theory workshop is a prerequisite for the Digital Colour Grading with DaVinci Resolve, Intermediate Colour Grading with DaVinci Resolve, Blackmagic Cinema Camera and URSA Mini Pro and RED Epic Camera workshops.
