Storytelling in Virtual Reality

Step into the story - literally! This immersive 8-hour workshop introduces creators to the evolving language of Virtual Reality storytelling, where audiences art no longer just viewers, but participants inside the narrative itself. Designed for filmmakers, editors, and storytellers ready to expand their craft, the workshop explores how VR transforms story structure, perspective, and emotional engagement. This workshop is both practical and exploratory, encouraging participants to experiment, question conventions, and begin developing their own VR story concepts.

The Introduction to Independent Filmmaking, Short Film Writing and Camera Theory workshops are recommended as prerequisites.

Instructor: Yael Elfanbaum

Yael Elfanbaum's Virtual Realtiy (VR) work spans both commercial and narrative spaces, including immersive brand experiences and a 360° behind-the-scenes project for Wicked featured by TimeOut London. She is also the creator of Spotlight Effect, a fictional VR series that experiments with perspective, presence, and the psychology of being seen, pushing the boundaries of how character and audience intersect in immersive storytelling.

Alongside her creative practice, Yael has contributed to shaping the next generation of XR storytellers as an instructor at Sheridan College and George Brown College. Her teaching emphasizes the unique language of VR, guiding creators to rethink point of view, agency, and emotional engagement in a medium where the viewer becomes part of the narrative.
