Intimacy Coordination for Film and Television

This four-hour workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to the role of an Intimacy Coordinator in film and television. Participants will examine the complete scope of this position, covering key areas such as closed set protocols, consent-based approaches to touch, rehearsal, and choreography, as well as involvement in casting and contract riders.

The session also covers modesty garments and prosthetics, union guidelines, harassment policies and effective communication with Heads of Department to ensure both physical and emotional safety on set. By understanding how to collaborate with an Intimacy Coordinator, filmmakers will gain practical tools to create respectful, efficient and professional working environments. Participants will learn how to approach scenes ranging from subtle intimacy to simulated sex and sexual violence using established best practices that prioritize safety, clarity and consent, allowing creative work to be executed confidently and without harm.

Instructor: Lindsay Somers

Lindsay Somers (she/they) has worked as an accomplished Medical Consultant in the film industry for over 20 years through her company Ready Set Medic. Her extensive work choreographing medical sequences and instructing actors on their performances led to Somers being hired by HBO as the first-ever Canadian Intimacy Coordinator in 2018. Somers, a queer Intimacy Coordinator, has since founded Intimacy Coordinators Canada (ICC) – the first collective of Certified Canadian Intimacy Coordinators, with the goal of creating a community of trusted intimacy professionals. Somers and ICC have established the on-set protocols that have become industry standards in Canada and have been a leading force in the success of Canadian Intimacy Coordination. https://www.intimacycoordinatorscanada.com
