Optical Printing with the JK

NOTE: This workshop is in person and require participants to wear a mask in order to attend.

Learn the basics of optical printing with LIFT’s user friendly JK optical printer in this hands-on workshop. Optical printing allows filmmakers to re-photograph to film. Typically used for copying and restoring old film material, filmmakers take advantage of the machine’s flexibility to use for experimental film projects. Topics include: step printing, superimposition, bipacking film and blowing up 8mm and Super 8mm footage to 16mm. Participants will watch and discuss a variety of optically printed films, and have an opportunity to practice hands-on exercises to familiarize themselves with this versatile piece of equipment. Discover the aesthetic possibilities available using the LIFT's JK Optical Printer.

This workshop is presented by MUBI, the curated streaming service to discover ambitious films from iconic directors to emerging auteurs. Start watching hand-picked cinema for free at mubi.com/lift.
