Artists in Residence and Visiting Artists
Last Updated: May 13, 2026
.
LIFT offers a select number of international residencies each year depending on funding from the artists’ local country. The time ranges from 4 – 6 weeks for individual production residencies for artists from outside Canada. LIFT’s international residency program focuses on the production of analogue film-based works with equipment and facilities to which the artist would not have access in their local region.
.
Artists are expected to be at an established point in their practice (although not necessarily working predominantly with film). Applicants must also consider what they would bring to the Toronto community in terms of community collaboration, teaching, artist talks and/or presentation activities—these engagements are a critical part of each residency offered by LIFT.
.
Residency Proposals and Inquiries should include:
– First and Last Name
– Name, phone number and email of filmmaker
– Location of city and country where filmmaker’s home base is
– Description of proposed project and exact request of support from LIFT
– Detailed timeline
– Detailed budget
– Website/Portfolio of work (if applicable)
.
Please allow 4 to 8 weeks for an evaluation of your proposal, depending on its complexity and current workload.
.
IMPORTANT:
Support letters from LIFT for individuals’ project grant applications will not be provided until a contract regarding the proposed project has been approved and signed by both parties.
.
Any inquiries can be sent to director@lift.ca
