Artist: Jani Lauzon (Toronto)
Artist: Jani Lauzon (Toronto)
Jani
Lauzon has been awarded the imagineNATIVE + LIFT Mentorship for 2008.
A multiple Dora and Juno Award nominee, and a Gemini Award winning
puppeteer, Jani is an multitalented performer in Canada’s music and
theatre communities. Jani’s most recent role as Marc Antony in Death of A
Chief, in Native Earth’s adaptation of Shakespear’s Julius Caesar, was a
testament to her intensity and innovative vision as an artist.
Last
year’s Mentorship recipient, Michelle Latimer, produced a beautiful
experimental short titled Tomorrow that screened at imagineNATIVE in
2007. Michelle shares that her experience helped to launch her in the
industry: “It gave me confidence to get out there and take charge of my
goals as a filmmaker and a creative person. My life hasn’t been the same
since. I’ve been directing more, producing on a much larger scale, and
generally accepting that I have something to offer in this industry.”
With
Jani’s combined talent and artistic vision, imagineNATIVE and LIFT are
excited to see what she will bring to the world of film. Jani’s
finished work will be presented as part of the 2008 imagineNATIVE Film +
Media Arts Festival (Oct. 15-19).
