The script and continuity supervisor is responsible for many things on set, including script timings, helping the cast with dialogue, logging shots and camera positions, overseeing general script continuity and making notes for the editor. This workshop will demystify the role of continuity/script supervisor and is intended for those who are interested in pursuing the craft of continuity, as well as for filmmakers or editors who wish to better understand their relationship with the Script Supervisor. Topics covered will include timing dramatic scripts, pre-production, responsibilities on set, relationships with the cast and crew, slating systems, learning to “see” continuity, continuous action/screen direction, continuity notes and preparing the editor’s script. Practical exercises, including shot analysis and filling out continuity forms, along with a discussion-based, rather than a lecture-style class, will form the approach to this workshop.

Jane Walker has worked in film for 23 years in various on-set positions, becoming a professional script and continuity supervisor in 1996. Recently she was the continuity supervisor on the feature film Dr. Cabbie and the Netflix series Between and will soon return to her sixth year working on the CBC series The Murdoch Mysteries. Jane holds a BA in Cinema Studies from the University of Toronto, and an MFA in Film from York. She has also produced and directed several films which have screened in Canada and internationally. Jane started teaching workshops at LIFT in 1997, and has also taught at the University of Toronto’s Hart House Film Board and Sheridan College.
