LIFT ANNOUNCES SUMMER 2020 INDUSTRY PANELS

Toronto, July 6, 2020—The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is pleased to announce our summer lineup of industry panels as part of the 2020 Newcomer Filmmentor Program. Although geared towards the emerging artists participating in this year’s mentorship we have opened up registration to the wider public.

Over the next three months join us as we tackle various topics that every filmmaker has to deal with throughout their careers. So mark your calendar, register online and get ready to tune in online via Zoom on the following days to engage with an exciting line-up of industry perspectives.

Navigating Festivals and Distribution

Once your film is made…what do you do with it? In this hour-long discussion, we will explore the exhibition and distribution process for independent Canadian filmmakers and how to make sure that people end up seeing your film. From festival strategy to understanding what a distributor can do for your film.

Speakers include Impact Producer and Consultant Daniel Northway-Frank, Programmer Rasheed Bailey, and Distribution Director at Vtape Wanda vanderStoop.

Film Funding in Canada Beyond the Arts Councils

There is more to project funding than just Arts Councils. There are funds available through Film Festivals, corporations and other government bodies. Whether you’re looking to fund an experimental documentary or a web-series—we’ll explore how to get them off the ground.

Speakers include Carly Kastner of the National Film Board, Alan Bacchus of The Harold Greenberg Fund, and Julian Carrington of the Hot Docs Film Funds.

Community Building and Mentorship throughout your Career

Building an independent creative career can sometimes be a really lonely experience. But there are communities out there that are there to support artists through both formal and informal professional development opportunities. We’ll talk about taking the next steps in your career and finding the community to help you build your confidence as well as your skills.

Speakers include Marsha Greene, Gillian Müller, and Sarolta Csete.
