Creative Lighting Techniques

This workshop will explore advanced lighting techniques for filmmakers, cinematographers, and gaffers, delving into the practical and artistic dimensions of lighting expression. Various scenes and scenarios will be analyzed and reconstructed through practical exercises to achieve a specific visual aesthetic that supports creative storytelling. Participants will examine dramatic lighting methodologies applicable to interior and exterior settings, High Key and Low Key illumination, as well as static and moving subjects, actors, and locations. The curriculum incorporates the use of daylight and artificial fixtures, concepts of soft and hard light, and a comprehensive range of peripheral lighting tools designed to shape and control the visual tone of the image. This session offers a crucial opportunity to integrate a diverse palette of tools with valuable hands-on experience.

The Camera Theory and Lighting Fundamentals workshops are required as prerequisites to this class. This workshop is recommended as a companion to the Cinematography Fundamentals workshop. Participants are asked to bring work gloves to this workshop.
