WARM DATA:
PERFORMANCE WITH VISITING ARTIST NATALIA KOZIEŁ-KALLIOMÄKI

Based in Finland, Polish filmmaker Natalia Kozieł-Kalliomäki joins us on Friday, November 24, 2023 to present a 16mm expanded cinema performance. This performance complements her residency as the fourth resident in LIFT’s collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts Helsinki and the Saastamoinen Foundation. The residency supports the making of a new film-based work by alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts. Natalia has been with us since September 1 and will be presenting a work entitled “WARM DATA.”

“I stumbled upon my first lonely shoe on College Street, and from that point on, they seemed to multiply. A lawnmower sat patiently at the bus stop, as though it had been left there only briefly. On bustling Spadina Street, a pot of soup cooled next to a lamppost. I passed by a plastic dog that was barking and a wooden booth filled with books perched above the gas meter. Then, a Coca-Cola truck, an everything bagel, and a theatre adorned with a sign that read “Welcome to Paradise” came into view. From my position tilted downward and with my head held high, I’ve derived pure pleasure during my three-months gazing at Toronto. It’s a city where contrasts coexist harmoniously. ‘WARM DATA’ is a slice of my information presented in the form of expanded live-cinema.”
