The program “a life like this” compiles five works spanning over the years from 2008 to 2017, all made by graduates from Cologne’s Kunsthochschule für Medien (KHM).

These films and videos allow us to dive into individual lives as well as collective destinies and realities often dealing with topics such as isolation, boredom, trauma, loss, violence and self-determination.

In his black and white film A Taste of Honey, Simon Rittmeier takes us into moments of daily life in Cuba, while in Body Snatcher Benjamin Ramirez Perez uses footage from Barbara Loden’s Wanda (1970) as she passes through empty industrial landscapes as a starting point for the work.

In Rebeca we witness Gonzalo Rodriguez on the traces of his grandmother’s death in Peru in 1993 while in Lena Ditte Nissen’s Anóme we explore the world of two matrilineal tribes, the Moshu (China) and the Kuna (Panama). In Julia Weissenberg’s To Make You Feel Comfortable we get a different view on the so-called smart cities.
