Goodbye to Technical Coordinator Gareth Jasper and
Welcome to New Technical Coordinator Noé Rodriguez
The staff and board at LIFT would like to announce the departure of Technical Coordinator Gareth Jasper and thank him for his incredible contribution to the organization. After three years working at LIFT Gareth is moving to a position at the University of Toronto. During his tenure at LIFT Gareth has supported hundreds of member productions and helped develop the organization’s engagement with digital cinema production and presentation. While Gareth’s daily presence will be missed we are looking forward to working with him as a member on his own films.
Gareth had this to say about his time at LIFT:
“LIFT was my first job in the independent artist film and video scene in Canada. I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the country in general – and Toronto in particular. Through my time at LIFT and through the people I have met, I have gotten to know this city better, and gained an appreciation for the amazing network of filmmakers, artists and general crazies that come through its doors. LIFT is a very important organization, and is vital for giving opportunities for individuals and organizations to both use and learn mixed media. I am moving to a position as Multimedia Support Specialist at the University of Toronto, but I hope to keep in touch with people I’ve met, as well becoming a member and using LIFT’s resources. It was a privilege to work for LIFT and I hope it continues for many years to come.”
LIFT would also like to welcome our new Technical Coordinator Noé Rodriguez who started on July 9th. Noé first visited LIFT in 2005 while in town for the Images Festival and became further engaged with the Toronto community while completing a MFA at York University. His broad experience with both film and digital platforms will be an asset to LIFT members and their productions.
Noé Rodríguez (MFA, York University) began his professional career with lens-based media more than twelve years ago and has always combined this professional trajectory with his academic line of work in both Humanities and Media. During this span of time, he has actively participated in the Spanish film industry working in a broad range of departments and positions that allowed him to experience a wide variety of film-related workflows. Although he often focused on the direction and camera departments, he has also done some location sound recording and has an ample experience with non-linear image editing. In parallel, he also co-founded Epojé Films, an independent production company devoted to the creation of documentary films, in which his role as co-director allowed him to direct and produce award-winning pieces for the festival circuit as well as TV broadcast products. He is currently tinkering with interactive interfaces and software to expand the interjection between sound, image and audience reception.
Join us in welcoming our new staff and saying goodbye to departing staff at the LIFT and Images Festival 2012 Ward’s Island Picnic on Saturday, July 28th.
LIFT would like to welcome our new Technical Assistant Tyler Hagan.
Tyler started on June 25th and will be with the technical department until August 2012.

Tyler Hagan is a filmmaker from Vancouver, B.C., currently residing in Toronto. He got his BFA in Film from Simon Fraser University’s School For the Contemporary Arts where he met and co-founded the filmmaking collective Shakey Films with Lisa Pham and Ryan Flowers. His films often straddle the boundaries between fiction and non-fiction, a space that is a very problematic yet productive one. Tyler’s work has been screened domestically and internationally at film festivals, as well as online with the CBC, and the National Screen Institute of Canada (NSI). “This Is How Long These Words Will Last,” his latest film, is part of a bigger project of the CBC’s called 8th Fire. He has recently been commissioned to make a short 16mm experimental film for imagineNATIVE Film and Media Arts Festival 2012, as part of the LIFT and imagineNATIVE Mentorship Program.
