Call for Applications: LIFT, Innis College and Cinema Studies Institute’s Filmmaking Mentorship Program
CALL FOR APPLICANTS:
LIFT, INNIS COLLEGE and CINEMA STUDIES INSTITUTE’s
INAUGURAL FILMMAKING MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
Toronto, August 2, 2017—Do you have a great idea for a 5-minute short film? In an effort to foster independent filmmaking, the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT), University of Toronto’s Innis College and the Cinema Studies Institute present the Filmmaking Mentorship Program. This mentorship will give students the opportunity to explore filmmaking through the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto’s (LIFT) workshops, equipment and facilities.
You will be provided with a LIFT Production Membership until the end of the 2017/2018 academic year, and will be eligible to enroll in any training workshop offered during their Fall 2017 and Winter 2018 calendar (to a maximum $500 value). You will have the opportunity to work with LIFT’s knowledgeable staff and a specially selected mentor(s). You will get the opportunity to use LIFT’s extensive equipment and post production facilities (to a maximum $1,000 value). As every film is unique, equipment and facilities access will be established in the development phase based on the project’s needs.
Innis College and/or the Cinema Studies Institute may subsidize additional costs related to your project up to $750 bursary (only available upon receipt of deliverables). All other associated costs are to be covered by the participant. The final film will be screened at the University of Toronto Film Festival on Monday, March 26, 2018.
Please note: Projects must be realistic in scope and subject matter as they must be completed and transferred as a digital exhibition master by Monday, February 26, 2018.
Eligibility Criteria:
– This call is open to upper year Innis College or Cinema Studies Institute students currently enrolled in the 2017/2018 academic year
– Applicants must commit to attending LIFT workshops from September 2017 to April 2018
– Applicants must hold, and retain, creative, and editorial control in the director/filmmaker role, as well as copyright to the project for which they apply
– We encourage students from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply
– This mentorship is best suited to applicants who are deadline-driven and self-starters
Your Application Must Include:
– One-page proposal: title, genre (fiction, non-fiction, experimental), length, medium, log line, synopsis
– A half to one-page statement on how you would benefit from this mentorship
– A production schedule and logistics summary: timeline, resources, etc.
-Your biography, 150 words maximum (no resumes or curriculum vitae please). Please indicate your past experience with film, video/digital and other artistic mediums (if any)
– Contact info, including email, mailing address and phone number
– Two professor recommendation letters and their contact info (email and phone number)
