Despite the tragic loss of LIFT’s Executive Director Roberto Ariganello, the LIFT staff are determined to continue with all of LIFT’s scheduled events in honour of Roberto’s commitment to the independent film community. For September only, LIFT OUT LOUD will be on a Tuesday evening to avoid conflict with LIFT’s “Shine it On” and TIFF.

Two short screenplays that break the rules

SITTING by Chris MaGee and OVER A BARREL by Vickie Fagan

This month’s moderator will be JUDITH THOMPSON.

 

Playwright (screenwriter, actor and director) JUDITH THOMPSON is one of the most celebrated playwrights in Canadian history. ‘The Globe and Mail once declared that “in this country, a playwright as good as Judith Thompson is a miracle.” She has twice been awarded the GOVERNOR GENERAL’S AWARD for drama, and is the recipient of many other awards including the Order of Canada.’ – Wikipedia. She is known for her violent, controversial stories that incorporate ‘visceral and subconscious elements of human experience’. Her work ranges from plays and teleplays such as THE CRACKWALKER, WHITE BITING DOG, PERFECT PIE, LION IN THE STREETS, SLED, and CAPTURE ME.

SITTING by Chris MaGee

 

SITTING is a short, abstractly humorous script about small goals, unquiet minds and the tangential relationship between people. . .who sit.

 

CHRIS MaGEE is an amateur screenwriter, and a published poet. He is also the assistant editor of Jones Av., a quarterly poetry journal which is in its 11th year of publication.

 

OVER A BARREL by Vickie Fagan

 

In an attempt to pick up the pieces of her life, Mary Day has returned to her hometown of Niagara Falls, taking a job as a Program Director at the local cable station. OVER A BARREL offers an insider’s tour as it looks behind the curtain of a cartoonish town.

 

VICKIE FAGAN has worked as a freelance writer, producer, interviewer and researcher. Her first documentary ADVENTURES IN BREATHING chronicles a double lung transplant surgery, and TEN GATES DANCING, profiles Canada’s avant-garde contemporary dancer, Tedd Robinson. Most recently, Vickie completed SWAN SONG a short film for Bravo. She is currently developing a feature film.

 

Take part in LIFT OUT LOUD where members workshop their scripts to by professional actors and then get feedback from the audience of their peers. We are looking for scripts for upcoming readings.
