Rhett Morita’s career as a Cinematographer began
quickly and he was shooting major commercial campaigns for Air Canada,
Coke, Labbatt’s, and Mcdonalds, within a few years of starting. During
his D.O.P. career he has lensed over forty music videos including early
videos for such bands as Blue Rodeo, and Brian Adams. He has also shot
Gemini winning documentaries, and television dramas for WB, Disney,
Nickelodeon, CTV, and CBS. In the mid-nineties he began to shoot
television movies for Show Time, Disney, Columbia/Tristar, Lifetime and
multi award winning films for Court TV. In a break between projects in
the spring of 2003 he decided to write and produce a short film. “LIFE
AFTER” is his short film directorial debut, premiering at the New York
International film festival in October. Since then, he has written and
directed five short film/videos.

12:01 By Mark Masoumi

12:01 is a short film about a couple relaxing in
their home, about to watch a movie when they catch a disturbing
broadcast on the news. Reports of an unidentified object hurdling
toward Earth send the couple in to a state of disbelief. It’s here, in
their final moments together that they come to grips with what is about
to happen at exactly 12:01.

Taking a page from many filmmakers of today, Mark’s
approach is the do-it-yourself method. He spent some time enrolled in
film classes at Humber College, making several short films. Mark is now
attempting to take his career to the next level. He worked as a Grip
and a PA on several projects including two features films, to gain set
experience. Taking the study of film and visual story telling as a
serious hobby, Mark has made the efforts to learn the craft inside and
out. Currently in the process of building up a professional looking
director reel, he has several projects in development from music videos
as well as a series of short films.
