Kika Nicolela is a Brazilian artist, filmmaker and independent curator, currently doing an art residency at the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT). ACTING OUT presents a selection of her single-channel pieces, followed by a Q&A with the artist mediated by Jorge Lozano. In this discussion, Nicolela will drawn from her own experience and approach topics like the relationship between the practice of the artist and her insertion in the international art scene, the artist as a curator and instigator, and the nomadic experience of the artist in the context of art-residencies. She will also give a brief overview of the exciting art scene in Brazil and its opportunities for international artists.

 

Kika’s artistic practice include single-channel videos, installations, performances and photography. Graduated in Film and Video by the University of Sao Paulo, she is currently completing a Master of Fine Arts at Zurich University of the Arts. Nicolela was the recipient of several grants and has participated of over 100 solo and group exhibitions in Austria, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and US. Her videos have been screened and awarded in festivals of more than 30 countries, such as: Kunst Film Biennale, Bilbao International Film Festival, Milan International Film Festival, Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, Japan Media Arts Festival, Videoformes New Media & Video Art Festival and São Paulo International Film Festival. www.dilemastudio.com
