Following in the artistic footsteps of such experimental Japanese film masters as Takahiko Iimura, Takashi Ito and Motoharu Jonouchi, filmmaker Takashi Makino has created a unique vision that immerses the audience in layers of light, colour, visual dissonance and abstract sound. In this programme Makino combines his minimalist imagery with soundscapes created by famed noise musicians Machinefabriek, Jim O’Rourke, as well as Makino himself. Through his collaborations with these musicians it’s Makino’s desire to arrive at an ideal synthesis of light and sound, what he believes are the essence of cinema.
Words can only go so far in explaining the work of Takashi Makino. All we at Shinsedai can say is, be prepared to have your notions of cinema to be challenged and expanded by this not to be missed experience.
