LIFT ROUND-UP 2013 SCREENS AT THE BLOOR HOT DOCS CINEMA

Toronto, December 18, 2013— The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is pleased to announce the LIFT Round-Up 2013, a screening of films made by LIFT members over the last year. LIFT is a member-driven, charitable organization that provides affordable access to equipment, training and facilities for those who want to make films, out of a passion for, and commitment to, the practice of filmmaking. Join LIFT on Sunday, January 12, for a special presentation of recent short films made by LIFT members.
The LIFT Round-Up 2013 features nine films by a range of our members, from established filmmakers like Josephine Massarella to emerging filmmakers like Adrienne Marcus Raja, whose film Soli was commissioned for the LIFT/imagineNATIVE Film Festival’s 2013 Mentorship program. LIFT supports a diversity of filmmakers and filmmaking genres and the programme reflects this—from documentary to dramatic narrative to music video and experimental film. The films were made using LIFT’s equipment, ranging from Super 8mm and 16mm to 35mm and High-Definition Video.
Program:
The Squeaky Shoe, Richard Pierre, comedy, 2 min.
A man with a squeaky shoe quickly becomes an outcast and must do everything his power to fix the problem.
2003, Mark Henry Fiorillo, diary film, 7.5 min.
A revisionist journey to Mark’s origins as a 25-year old running around the city with Super 8mm cameras and being in love with anything and everything he could capture.
Happy, Daniel McIntyre, experimental film, 8 min.
A direct result of attending too many weddings, happy explores the intersection of happiness, apostasy and love, through hand-processed 16mm memories.
The Inspired Souls, Richard Fung, documentary, 10 min.
The members of a drop in music program in Regent Park prepare for a performance at the Cabbagetown Festival.
Stroke of Luck, Paul Carlos, drama, 4.5 min.
A rockstar comes home to celebrate the signing of his record contract. His ideas about fame and fortune are changed completely.
Soli, Adrienne Marcus Raja, experimental drama, 10 min.
Soli follows the sun, symbolized by an enigmatic figure, Sole, as he explores the city and illuminates the lives of a series of lonely people.
Scars, Cody Campanale, drama, 12 min.
A holiday game of sharing secrets starts as harmless fun, but quickly turns serious when a dark secret from the past is revealed that leaves everyone scarred.
Darkness, Justin Colautti, music video for Kalle Mattson, 5 min.
A music video for artist Kalle Mattson, in support of his new his new album, Someday, the Moon Will be Gold.
Light Study, Josephine Massarella, experimental film, 13 min.
Meticulously filmed over several seasons, using 16mm single frame photography, this animated short explores changes in light patterns over temporal and seasonal shifts the unique landscape of the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere. Soundtrack by composer Graham Stewart, of the experimental music collective Viosac.
