Toronto, August 11, 2016—The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is pleased to announce the election of David Café-Fébrissy as the new Chair of its Board of Directors.

Café-Fébrissy replaces Kathryn MacKay, who moved to Berkeley, California this summer to become the Associate Film Curator of the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA). MacKay served on the board since 2009 and contributed greatly towards the revitalization of LIFT as it settled into its new space at 1137 Dupont Street. MacKay says of her time at LIFT, “I think it’s an amazing organization and it’s been a pleasure to help to support it over the last few years. Thanks to the incredibly dedicated, knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff and membership for making LIFT in to such a vital resource for all aspects of moving image production. I look forward to seeing how LIFT will continue to evolve in years to come.”

Environmental Engineer by education, Actor and Theatre Director by passion, David Café-Fébrissy brings his expertise in strategic planning and project management, as well as his financial acumen to LIFT as the new Chair of the Board of Directors. He hopes his time at LIFT will help further strengthen bridges between the media arts community and creative entrepreneurship. “I am excited to work at LIFT because it is a vibrant place where creativity, knowledge and passion mix altogether,” Café-Fébrissy says, “It really motivates me.”

“It’s always deeply encouraging for staff and members to see the level of commitment that volunteers to our board bring to the organization,” Executive Director Chris Kennedy says. “David has already proved himself a great asset to our future planning for LIFT and he is an excellent addition to the team. We look forward to a very successful collaboration.”
