Grey Bruce Arts
Collective

Since 2008, the Grey-Bruce
Arts Collective has been working to initiate and sustain vibrant community arts
in the rural areas of Grey-Bruce counties. Through their innovative theatre programming
and educational workshops they have striven to enhance the cultural landscape
of the region. In 2009, they started the Meaford Youth Film Studio, a summer
youth program designed to instruct local teens on the technique and process of
filmmaking, and allow them the opportunity to work on their own films with
instruction and guidance from industry professionals.

The course is offered to
youth ages 13 to 18. Participants have the opportunity to work in a variety of positions,
and hone an array of skills while finding their niche. They are then given the
opportunity to write and pitch their own short film ideas that, with the
provided resources and equipment, they will be able make in the second week.
All level of production from the initial conception of the idea, all the way to
the final cut in post-production, are handled by the students who with aid and supervision
of the instructors do all the writing, auditions, casting, location scouting,
scheduling, directing, sound recording, and editing. The finished films are
premiered at the Meaford International Film Festival.
