Make a camera less film in a weekend and see it projected at the North Bay Film Festival!

Perfect for painters, mixed-media artists, and filmmakers this weekend workshop will explore a number of direct on film techniques. Participants will apply paints, dyes, collage, scratching and chemistry to clear leader, color leader and found footage, and explore decay techniques using bleach, oil and varnish. Included in this weekend workshop is studio time, screenings of artist’s work and the opportunity to project the films created in the workshop in an installation at the closing night of the North Bay Film Festival. This workshop is open to all artists, no prior film experience necessary.

Instructors:

Eva Kolcze is a Toronto-based artist and filmmaker whose work explores themes of landscape, architecture and the body through material investigations with the surface of celluloid. Her work has screened at galleries and festivals including Birch Contemporary, Anthology Film Archives, The International Rotterdam Film Festival, The Images Festival, and Antimatter Film Festival. www.evakolcze.com

Terra Long is an independent filmmaker and educator. She creates tapestry like works that draw on natural history, deep time, and the space between the real and the imaginary. Her films are often concerned with the materiality of film in relation to the image captured. She is currently working with a film developer made from dates to hand process a film shot in a date palm Oasis. Her works have screened at festivals and micro cinemas including the Edinburgh International Film Festival, International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, CPH DOX, in the Wavelengths section at Toronto International Film Festival, and the Images Festival in her hometown of Toronto. She is also the Special Projects Coordinator at the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT)

This workshop is part of LIFT’s Touring Filmmaking Workshops with media arts centers throughout Ontario. The touring program is generously supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
