Hone your producing skills in this crash course in producing independent film. In this workshop, participants learn the process of taking a dramatic film project from development to delivery from a producer’s perspective. Topics include story editing, pitching, casting, crewing, securing locations, financing, budgets, scheduling, contracts, clearing music, deliverables, marketing and distribution. Focusing specifically on the particularities of the dramatic film, you will acquire the foundational knowledge to help guide you through a narrative-based production.

 

Instructor: 

Daniel Bekerman is producer at Scythia Films’ with recent projects including You Are Here; an unconventional science fiction/metaphysical exploration that received rave reviews at TIFF ’10. Variety magazine compared it to the works of Charlie Kaufman and it won the Toronto Film Critics association award for emerging talent. The Pin, a powerful WWII drama, is currently shooting in rural Ontario. An Inconvenient Youth is an ongoing feature documentary and web-based advocacy platform with U.S. foundation support that goes on the road with teenage environmentalists as they inspire and unite kids from around the world. Scythia Films has several projects in development and financing phases, including Bang Bang Baby; a surreal 1950’s musical, The Graduates; a dark comedy with Bruce McDonald attached to direct, 5 Lakes; a gothic drama written by Hunger writer Enda Walsh and Due Process; a dark comedy written and directed by Simon Ennis. Daniel Bekerman’s extensive co-producing, line producing, production managing and service producing experience includes Edwin Boyd, Defendor, The Whistleblower, Red Lights, the Japanese indie hit Toilet and recently Foxfire directed by Palme d’Or winner and Oscar nominee Laurent Cantet.
