Introduction to Electronics for Artists
Artists working in audio or visual installation need to understand the fundamentals of electronics to take advantage of the incredible technology available to their practice. Learn everything you need to know about basic electronics in this hands-on course tailored specifically for working artists. Topics include: basic electronics theory, an introduction to circuit design and construction, resistors and transistors, coils and motors, and an overview of Arduino and sensors.
No previous experience with electronics required. Workshop fees include course kit with breadboard, timer circuit, resistors, transistors, capacitors and LED lights ($30 value), which participants take home for future projects.
Gerald Grison is a intermedia artist whose practice incorporates sound, kinetics and optics. Finding inspiration from discarded electronics, his work focuses on the issues of technology and obsolescence. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art & Design University Integrated Media program and has since taught introductory classes in electronics and physical computing at OCADU.
