Sustaining a career as an artist necessitates learning how to write a clear, concise and persuasive arts grant application. This workshop will outline the process of planning, writing and submitting media arts grant proposals that accurately and interestingly represent your individual project. The course will focus on what juries look for in the presentation, budget preparation and support material. We will also review and critique participants grant proposals to give individual feedback on how to fund your works in progress.

Upcoming media arts grant deadlines: Canada Council for the Arts, March 1; Ontario Arts Council, April 1; Toronto Arts Council, November 5.

Participants should provide a draft grant proposal by Monday November 19, 2012. Submit to registration@lift.on.ca with course title in the subject line.

Instructor:

b.h. Yael has been writing grants for nearly twenty years now. She supports the idea of a peer jury system, one in which practitioners are judging the applications for funding grants, and she’ll tell you why in this session. Yael is a local video and installation artist, and teaches at the Ontario College of Art & Design, in Integrated Media. Her most recent work, Trading the Future, premiered at the Mumbai International Film Festival and in Toronto at the Images Festival. This video recently received the Audience Award at the Ecofilms Festival in Rhodes, Greece and was funded by all three levels of arts councils, for which she is truly grateful.
