Filmstrip as Canvas
Perfect for painters, mixed-media artists and filmmakers, this one-day workshop will explore a number of direct on film techniques, to make a film without a camera. Participants will apply paints, dyes, collage, scratching and chemistry to clear leader and found footage, as well as explore decay techniques using bleach, oil and varnish. This workshop includes studio time, screenings of artist’s work and the opportunity to project the films created in the workshop.
This workshop is open to all artists, no prior film experience necessary. This workshop includes all film and supplies for use during the workshop.
Eva Kolcze is a Toronto-based artist and filmmaker whose work explores themes of landscape, architecture and the body through material investigations with the surface of celluloid. Her work has screened at galleries and festivals including Birch Contemporary, Anthology Film Archives, The International Film Festival Rotterdam, The Images Festival, and Antimatter Film Festival.
