Apartment Story written by Anthony Van Pham Tommy, heartbroken after being betrayed by his long-term girlfriend, wanders the streets of Toronto at night. But it's out there he meets Julie, a young waitress who's pretty lost at life herself. The two bond over their shared stories of failed relationships and careers while exploring what the city has to offer for those willing to stay out past bedtime.
Guest Moderator AMNON BUCHBINDER:
Anmon Buchbinder's short films encompassed narrative and experimental approaches and extended to performing arts adaptations and documentaries. After a director's residency at the Canadian Film Centre, his critically acclaimed, genie-winning first feature The Fishing Trip was made in collaboration with his students at York University, where he works as a Professor of Film. Amnon's second feature Whole New Thing, which he co-wrote and directed, was a major hit on the international festival circuit. Published in 2005, his book The Way of the Screenwriter sets out a philosophical yet highly practical approach to screenwriting. Buchbinder has taught professional screenwriting workshops and has worked as a creative consultant and story editor for filmmakers all across Canada
Writer Anthony Van Pham is a lawyer and human rights advocate living and working in downtown Toronto. This is his second script read at LIFT OUT LOUD. His first was later produced into a short film that screened at various festivals around the world, including the Montreal World Film Festival and London International.
